TORONTO - TECA Canada's Youth Leadership Program celebrated a significant milestone last weekend as its first cohort of 25 participants graduated from the six-month intensive program.
The ceremony, held at Toronto City Hall, recognized young people ages 16-24 who completed leadership training, community service projects, and mentorship experiences designed to empower the next generation of community leaders.
Program Impact
"When I joined this program, I was shy and unsure about my abilities," shared Amina Hassan, 17, one of the graduates. "Now I'm leading workshops for younger students and planning to start a tutoring program in my neighborhood."
Throughout the program, participants:
- Completed 50+ hours of leadership training
- Designed and implemented 8 community service projects
- Connected with professional mentors in their fields of interest
- Developed public speaking and project management skills
The graduates' community projects addressed issues including food insecurity, environmental sustainability, peer mentorship, and digital literacy for seniors.
Future Plans
"Based on the success of this inaugural cohort, we're expanding the program to accommodate 40 participants next year," explained John Doe, Youth Programs Manager at TECA Canada. "We've also secured funding to provide stipends for participants facing financial barriers."
Several corporate partners have committed to providing internship opportunities for program graduates, creating pathways to professional development and employment.
Applications for the next cohort will open in September. Interested youth can attend an information session on August 15th at the TECA Community Center.
