TORONTO - TECA Canada has been awarded a $250,000 grant from the federal government to expand its employment services for newcomers to Canada. The funding, announced yesterday by the Minister of Employment, will support skills training, credential recognition assistance, and job placement services.
"This grant will significantly enhance our capacity to help newcomers overcome barriers to employment," said Executive Director Maria Rodriguez. "Finding meaningful work that utilizes their skills and education is one of the biggest challenges facing new Canadians."
Program Expansion
The funding will allow TECA Canada to:
- Hire two additional employment counselors with expertise in credential recognition
- Create partnerships with 30+ new employers committed to hiring newcomers
- Develop industry-specific training programs in high-demand sectors
- Provide subsidized work placements for 50 clients annually
- Expand digital skills training to meet current job market requirements
The organization aims to serve an additional 200 clients annually through these expanded services, with a focus on refugees and family-class immigrants who often face the greatest employment challenges.
Employer Partnerships
"We're actively recruiting employers who recognize the value that newcomers bring to the Canadian workforce," explained David Kim, TECA's Employment Program Director. "Diversity of experience and perspective is a competitive advantage in today's global marketplace."
Several major employers have already committed to the program, including financial institutions, healthcare organizations, and technology companies.
The expanded services will begin next month. Interested clients and employers can contact TECA's employment services department for more information.
