TECA Canada Partners with Local Businesses for Job Training

New initiative provides hands-on work experience for newcomers through partnerships with 15 local businesses.

TORONTO - TECA Canada has launched an innovative job training program in partnership with 15 local businesses, providing newcomers with hands-on work experience in Canadian environments. The program, called "Workplace Connections," addresses the common barrier of "Canadian experience" that many newcomers face when seeking employment.

"Many of our clients are highly skilled professionals who struggle to find work in their fields because they lack Canadian workplace experience," explained Employment Services Manager John Doe. "This program bridges that gap through short-term placements that build skills and references."

Business Partnerships

The participating businesses span multiple sectors, including:

  • Retail and customer service
  • Information technology
  • Healthcare support roles
  • Administrative positions
  • Food service and hospitality
  • Manufacturing and skilled trades

Each business has committed to providing meaningful work experiences lasting 4-8 weeks, with dedicated mentorship from experienced staff members. Participants receive a stipend to cover transportation and other work-related expenses.

Program Structure

"What makes this program unique is the comprehensive support we provide both to participants and to the businesses," said Maria Rodriguez, Executive Director. "Our employment counselors work closely with both parties to ensure a positive experience and address any challenges that arise."

Before beginning their placements, participants complete a two-week preparation course covering Canadian workplace culture, communication skills, and job-specific training. They continue to meet weekly with TECA employment counselors throughout their placement period.

Of the first 25 participants to complete the program, 18 have already secured permanent employment, either with their placement host or with other employers who recognized their Canadian experience.

TECA Canada is seeking additional business partners to expand the program. Interested businesses can contact the Employment Services department for more information.
